Negative policy comments not 'racist'
Â
A black Christian conservative activist says those who don't support President Barack Obama's policies are not racist.
Recently, charges of racism have been hurled at many of those taking part in Tea Party demonstrations and those who are critical of many of President Obama's policies. According to The Associated Press, many of those accusations have been aimed by blacks at other blacks for "having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president."
Bishop Harry Jackson, president of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, argues that people should be free to level criticism at the president without being called racist.
Â
Bishop Jackson pointed out that he was thankful that we have an African-American president, but that Obama was wrong on some issues. He also pointed out that speaking out against the administration and having one's racial integrity questioned is a mindset that "translates into a kind of reverse bigotry."
Â
And in his words:
Â
"And we need the freedom in a free country to speak out and say [that] the administration missed it here...without it being an indictment on the person's racial integrity -- or as an African American, people calling you an 'Uncle Tom' or an 'Oreo.'"
Â
I totally agree. I have never understood why people think that every black and every Hispanic has to be a Democrat. Or every Roman Catholic. Or every union worker.
Â
And I certainly do not understand name calling or threatening people because of their choice to be conservatives or Republicans.

I am proud of America for voting in Obama. I personally do not agree with his views on many issues, but then I did not and still do not agree with many of McCann's views either. So race has nothing to do with it.
I just wish that those in DC would listen to what the people want and not what their party wants. This congess does not do that, on either side. The GOP will not vote on a good bill, because it was from a Dem. The same is true of the Dems. Stop the name-calling and do YOUR JOB.
If a bill is wrong, then it is wrong and race or sex has nothing to do with it. FIX IT!

Frankly, the people who keep bringing up race - ie YOU and other liberals - are obviously more concerned, bothered, scared of race than conservatives are. To us, what is important is what's inside, one's integrity, one's associations (which do tell a tale). And Obama comes up short on all of those.
Of course we're against a health care takeover. And that is exactly what it is. The changes in my doctor's group practice already because of this health are bill will cost my family thousands of dollars each year. And that doesn't include the increase in premiums we'll have to have and the increase in taxes.
This is not a "recreational outlet" - it's a movement to get ALL the idiots in Washington - Democrat and Republican - listening to the people they SERVE.
The majority of Americans did not want the health care takeover, but it mattered not to the Dems.
We are for free markets, lower taxes for ALL, limited federal government, and fiscal responsibility for ALL (i.e. government, businesses and individuals).
The changes in my doctor's group practice already because of this health are bill will cost my family thousands of dollars each year. And that doesn't include the increase in premiums we'll have to have and the increase in taxes.
Please clarify (facts) each of these statements.
Hmmmmm
I have provided many posts and videos about black conservatives and black TEA party members. They're there. But, sadly, they don't often bring their entire families - like white members do - because they're afraid of the backlash they get from liberal Dems.
When I questioned the doc about these new requirements, I asked if they were new policies by the doctor group or the pharmacy and was told that they are parts of the new health care law. When I asked the pharmacist about the new prescription rules, I was told the same thing - new health care bill caused that.
And, oddly enough, I ended up with a similar story from my dog's vet. Yes, vet. Our dog freaks out at storms, to the point that the doc said he could have a heart attack it's that bad. His current med is actually a human drug which we have to get at the regular pharmacy. Since it is a human drug, we are now required to have our dog checked every 3 months as well. And the vet also blamed Obamacare.
Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglass, The Buffalo Soldier, Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Dr. Percy Julian, Thurgood Marshall and Brown v. The Board of Ed , Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and lets not forget 14 year old Emmett Till.
IMHO Black conservatives, have forgot or never read their black history.
Too true.
Nora said: So Brian, what is your problem with "white and mostly old"? Are you discriminating through not only race but age?
Actually, I don't see the need for the question mark in regard to these particular comments no matter who says them.
Nora said: Do whites and old people not have the right to speak out and demonstrate against something they strongly disagree with?
In a word, no. In fact, that fact is a point of glee and possibly anticipation for some (many?) ... what was it someone said to me ...? ... ... Ahh, I remember .... here it is ... it was in a conversation about the Firefighter thing in New Haven round about July of 2009. The one where the five fire fighters who passed those tests were prevented from taking their rightful place in the Dept because none of them was black ...
So any way at the time of the reversal of that decision, in the context in regard to what might be called a decision by the court to reverse a case of "reverse racism" (actually just simple racism dressed in different skin), someone said to me in a surprisingly honest way (one which is rare btw), "You only rejoice when you finally get to see how hurtful discrimination can be. How does it feel buddy? Don't feel that good does it?"

And, I do suggest you do some further reading about black history - and be sure to research all of the accomplishments of the Republican party. Don't forget that Republicans tried to get civil rights laws past from the 1860s and were fought every step of the way. And check out the GOP site for the lists of people - African-American and Hispanic (or don't you care about Hispanics?) - who have held positions of power within the party for years.
A significant motivation for opposition to President Obama is' racist and the fact you felt compelled to post this article is proof itself.
When all you can think of is "race" in regards to anything done or said, your own actions scream of racism. You are the racist!
Exactly spot on.
Amen to that.
Devin, if you question that most people who are criticize Obama are immediately determined to be racist, I suggest that you test that for yourself. Create an alter and post something as a conservative without telling anyone. I'll bet within 2 hours you'll be attacked.
We don't care that he's black. Uppity has nothing to do with color. He is arrogant, and elitist, like many people who graduate from Ivy League schools.
There are no doubt blacks that don't like Mr Obama either. There may be some that just resent his success, others his policies.
and Marilyn for you to say
And I certainly do not understand name calling or threatening people because of their choice to be conservatives or Republicans.
I think if you read some of your comments to people who don't agree with you, it will become clearer. We need to be civil to each other.
Who's fault is that?
But, Christine, the signs are available to see over the internet if you so chose and you could make an informed opinion about whether or not all TEA party members are racist, rather than believing liberal media.
